Sloppy Christianity

"Oh, for Pete’s sake" starts out the letter to the editor on Feb 16th from Kerry Walters ("Sloppy reading"). I would like to argue that Peter’s sake has nothing to do with the writer’s point. Peter had no problem believing the writings of Moses seeing as his Lord and Savior quoted from them often. I would rather speak of Kerry’s sake. (Mr./Ms.) Walters seems to stand in sharp contrast to the Master I assume he/she claims to follow. This doesn’t seem to be a very "reverent" position for a "Reverend".
I do not understand those who supposedly know the Bible and yet still dismiss the book of Genesis. To make matters worse, there are many in this camp who even profess to be Christians! A Christian by definition is "one who follows the Christ". To follow someone is to learn and submit to their teachings. Jesus not only accepted Genesis and it’s account of Creation, he taught from it (Mth 19:4-5, Mk 10:6, Jhn 8:44)! You can not be a faithful disciple if you dismiss your teacher’s teachings! It will be better in the Day of Judgment for those who do not know the word of God than for those who do and yet still reject it (2Pet 2:21)!
I do read my Bible through the eyes of faith Mr./Ms. Walters. The Bible says that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Rms 10:17). So I believe the Bible exactly as it is written. If this is your definition of fundamentalism, then so be it, but I call it faith. I humbly suggest Mr./Ms Walters read 1John 2:3-6 and John 5:46 with reverence and in faith.

Oh, for Pete's sake. If Moses really was the literal author of the Pentateuch (the Rev. Hunt, "Which Parts of the Bible Are Believable?"), how is it that his death is described at the end of Deuteronomy, the final Pentateuch book?
It's a dedicated author indeed, who can come back from the grave to write his own obituary!
We don't honor God by reading Scripture so sloppily.
It's one thing to read the Bible through the eyes of faith. It's quite another to read it through the eyes of uncritical fundamentalism.
